October 24th, 2007 Back from the U.K.
And I’m very slowly recovering from traveler’s fatigue. Got slammed with a cold the minute I got home. *sigh*
But the traveling was fun and I’ll post an update with photos later tonight.
Until then, here’s a photo to tide you over. I wanted to visit the Ministry of Magic, but no go.
Until later, friends!
September 29th, 2007 “re:” Album Sneaks
Here are just a few samples of the pages that we’ll be creating for the mini-album class I’ll be teaching at Scrap Camp next week. All the pages are very colorful and with lots of room available for journaling. I’m really happy with how it’s turned out and I hope that my students will enjoy it, too.
“re:ality” : a journal for me, by me
scrap camp 2007, bristol, uk
Tomorrow I’ll put up sneaks for the layout class. One hint: felt. Loooove felt. ![]()
UPDATE:
It’s now tomorrow and here’s the promised sneak peak of the layout class I’ll be teaching.
The class is called “Handmade Me” and will focus on why it is we create what we do. Lots of embroidery flossing going on so make sure to bring a thimble!
September 27th, 2007 First Day Off
Today is the first day of my working vacation. I leave for England and Scrap Camp soon but to get ready for the trip, I’ve decided to take this Thursday and Friday off from work. Oy, there are so many things I need to do before I go, and I’m hoping I can get it all done. I guess the saying is true - there really is never enough time.
SEPTEMBER KOTM
My album for Lisa Bearnson’s Kit of the Month is up on the site. I loved using this travel album; there are so many pieces to it. And double plus because I was finally inspired to scrapbook the photos from my family’s trip to the Philippines earlier this year. All of the sudden I’m feeling very accomplished lately. LOL.
So if you get a chance, take a gander at the kit. I loved looking through everyone’s take on the album and I’m sure you will, too.
SPEAKING OF TRAVELING
After Scrap Camp I’ll be heading over to London and I really don’t have plans for what to do while there. Honestly, I just haven’t had any time to plan anything but my classes. And I also haven’t planned anything for my overnight trip into Paris. Does anyone have any suggestions? My friend Melinda suggested I go on a Harry Potter tour. I am all for that because I’m such a fan, but just don’t know which one would be the best. How about places to shop/sites to see? I’ll be bringing with me my trusty camera and the excitement of a tourist, so any help would be much appreciated.
AND A THANKS
To those who left me such kind comments in my last posting. I’m way happier now. And here’s a photo inspired by all of you from your kind thoughts.
Have a great day!
September 10th, 2007 Saying Goodbye to Summer
And it’s been a pretty great one.
THE HAPPENINGS
So much has happened this summer for me: bridal showers, weddings, baby showers, birthdays, game nights, girl’s night outs, family time, road trips, photo sessions, baby-sitting, house-sitting, work deadlines, Garden projects, class projects, etc, etc.Notice that not included in this list is working out.
I apparently have no will for the working out. I need to hit the gym. First I need a gym subscription. Pre-first, I need to get over my self-consciousness regarding how my body will be seen in gym clothes. Mental-first, I need to get past the fact that I’ll be wearing gym clothes. Sigh.
THE PICTURES
As always I had my camera with me practically always. Took lots and lots of photos to document this summer which, I’m sure, you’ll see in a scrapbook layout near you. I’m always so excited to share my photos here, but am now overwhelmed as to which ones share. So at least for now I’ll share a cornucopia of photos from this summer.
Cupcakes from the 4th of July purchased from the Teacake Bake Shop, a.k.a. the best cupcakerie in town.

The orchid shed in my mother’s garden. The blooms are gone now, but they’ll be coming back soon.

My friends Emmanuel and Kaye on their wedding day. Such a great day.

My friend Rhonda celebrating her 29th, pictured with her mother. Aren’t they just beautiful?

My cousin Mary being attended to by my new cousin Joseph, her husband.

My bridesmaid bouquet of roses for my great friend Melinda’s wedding.

A gazillion chopsticks all atop a series of dining tables inside a Thai restaurant in the Castro.

My friends Corina and Josue during an outing in Oakland.

My best friend and her love during a sunset.

Meet Baby Grace Simpson.

My friends Cat and Ray during a sweet moment.

THE WORK
I’ve been hard at it this summer, working on layouts and such for this and that. CHA-S has come and gone and Memory Trends is around the corner. How did that happen? I think I blinked and another show popped up soon after the other.I’ve got more things on the way including my work in Rhonna’s new book for Autumn Leaves “Enjoy the Process” as well as the 2008 Designing With Calendar. Such amazing opportunities both. Can’t wait for them!
For now, I’m sharing a couple of layouts I created for FontWerks made from their newest products released during CHA-S. Love the stuff. Love the photos. It all came together.

THE CREATIVE JOURNAL
Did anyone get a chance to check out the Garden last month? If you did, did you guys download my Super Fun Creative Workbook Journal?? I hope you guys did. It was so, so much fun for me to make and I hope for those who downloaded the project, that it was equally fun to complete. I’ve had such amazing, positive, and funny responses to the project, so I’ll take the time now to sincerely thank everyone for their enthusiasm to the journal. As far as I know the project will be up indefinitely. So if you haven’t yet, go visit the Garden, download the project, and enjoy!
THE U.K. CLASS
I’m so very excited to be going to the U.K. to teach at Scrap Camp, Bristol from October 5-7. This event is hosted by Mandy of the fabulous Scrap Studio site. I’ll be teaching two separate classes at the all-weekend event, along with co-hosting some games and giving away raffle prizes! For more information, check out the Scrap Camp website - information about classes, scheduling, and costs are listed. (More info will be coming from me soon, so if you’re taking the class, watch for word from Mandy regarding homework assignments and supplies.)
After the weekend, I’ll continue to tour around the UK, possibly stopping over in Dublin before heading over for a week’s stay in London. During one of the days, I’m planning a trip to Paris to visit with a co-worker who will be traveling during the same time. We plan to Sex and the City it while we’re there. ![]()
THE TIME PASSED
It’s taken me over three months to get over my mad. A lot of you -I’m surprised and touched by how many- emailed me these past months wondering if I was okay because I had kept my blog silent for so long. I’m okay, but I wasn’t for a long while. On the night of my birthday, a comment was left on this blog that was very disturbing and very racist. As the summer passed, the comments came in increased frequency and aggressive language. Upon advice from a friend, I finally filed a report with my local authorities who have since taken matters into their own hands. Thanks to the good guys, the comments have died down considerably.
No matter what, I honestly can’t figure out how anyone would think I wouldn’t do anything about this. I’m not one to make a scene, but I’m not an idiot either. I’m very well educated, very well read, very articulate, and very, very smart. And as any smart person would do, I took action.
So if you’re the one leaving the idiotic, laughable, and pitiful comments on this blog, stop it. You won’t win with me.
THE GAME IS ON
49ers v. Arizona Cardinals. I know Matt Leinart is cute and all, but my Niners are totally gonna kick ass.Off to watch! Until later!
January 22nd, 2007 The Picture Parade Continues
I’m home. Good to be back.
SCRAPBUKAN NA!
Or in other words, Let’s Scrapbook! While I was in the Philippines, I had the pleasure of teaching to a fabulous group of women who just love this hobby. Here are just a few pictures from that awesome day.
Sahrie, owner of Scrapbukan, the store that hosted the classes.

This is Tuesday. That’s really her name. How awesome is that? She’s Sahrie’s Girl Friday in the Philippines.

Going over the class during a team meeting.

Walking around downtown Makati. Reminded me a lot of parts of Miami’s South Beach.

Taking a photo-moment during the class.

We had some awesome food catered to us. Can you believe this spread was only considered a snack?

Busy, busy, busy. Look at them go.

Words of wisdom that will never die.

Thanks so much, ladies, for making me feel like a kid again.

HAPPY LITTLE THINGS
I’ve gotten questions from various people asking me where I keep my wood-mounted stamps/how I store them. So I took these photos to share.
If I find myself using a particular stamp often, I keep it out, available, and within easy reach. So I keep these stamps in a wire basket on one of my shelves. I gotta say, I love seeing this basket on my shelf. I like the visual reminder that I can be creative in an instant.

How do I store the photos I’m going to scrap? I keep all the photos I want to scrap in a cute mini-suitecase I got from the Paper Source. In the past, I always stuck a Post-It note to the photos with a quick caption about the events surrounding the photo. Quick, easy, functional. But my workflow went up one notch when FontWerks came out with the “For Your Information” stamp. Now I use this image stamped on Post-It notes and fill in the information needed.

Nothing going on here. Just wanted to share the pile of notebooks I’ve apparently collected and have yet to fill with ideas.

UNTIL NEXT TIME
I’ve got a ton more photos to share. I’ll save them for next time.
Smiles, all. :o)
January 10th, 2007 Heya
Long time no write. I’m sorry to keep people waiting. Let me do a little catchup.
1. I didn’t finish reading all the emails I wanted to. Not even close. There are several still left in my inbox to handle - all the way from late October, I think. If anyone has been trying to get a hold of me, please email me again. I honestly don’t think I’ll ever be able to get to everyone from before; there’s just too many.
2. I’m still 5 ft tall. I was hoping to grow an extra inch taller by the end of last year. I drank my milk and everything.
3. I got a new lens that I purchased from Amy Howe. For my Nikon: the 18-200 f/3.5-5.6 VR. Yummy. And I’ve stuck to my resolution of taking photos almost everyday. Yup, yup.
4. CHA-Winter is around the corner. I’ll be there for FontWerks. I can’t wait to see friends and meet new people. So exciting for me.
5. Some things have been going on in this industry that I don’t necessarily think I have a tough enough skin for. I wasn’t built that way. But I know myself and I know my friends and I’m proud to be where I am and besides who I stand by. That’s the only truth in my reality and I think that’s the only one that should matter. Not the words on a blog that has gotten way out of hand. But those who participate have their own reasons and I respect that. That’s the way the world works and that’s cool by me. And though I respect the opinions of others, I think I’ll just keep doing what I’ve been doing. I feel, for once in my life, that I’m on a healthy path. I’m happy right now and I’m going to work hard to keep it that way.
6. I haven’t completed this year’s resolutions list yet. I still have yet to do a review of last year’s. I want to be more realistic and set more specific goals. Hopefully, I can come up with a list by the end of this month.
7. I’m in the Philippines right now; I’ve been here for nearly 3 weeks. I’ve needed this time away to be with my family. Only when I’m in the Philippines do I realize how much I’ve missed them. But I’ll be flying home next Tuesday and back to reality so I’m going to make the most of my time here while I’ve got it. 8. I’m also here for the added fun of teaching a few classes to the ladies of Scrapbukan. This hobby of mine is insane and I can’t believe I have the opportunity to teach while in the Philippines. So for you ladies who signed up, don’t forget to finish your homework before coming to class!
PICTURE PARADE
Just a few photos that I’ve taken while here in the Philippines. Click on the photo to see a larger view. (I would normally upload these to my smugmug account but can’t seem to log-in from the computer I’m at. I promise to make these available for picture-friendly viewing once I get to the States.)
My cousin and I. We’re primarily in the Philippines for her wedding.
My father’s younger brother. I snapped this shot incognito.
The party store across the street from my uncle’s shop. Kinda reminds me of the clown from Stephen King’s It.
My cousin with another cousin. He was trying to get her to ham it up for my camera.
Just before New Year’s Eve mass at the town church hall. You see my aunt in this photo.
The next generation enjoying the New Year’s fireworks.
Believe it or not, the bright light is a series of flashes from fireworks going off up and down my dad’s street.
Fireworks at midnight. Happy New Year!
My cousin’s baby. So cute.
My grandmother’s first cousin. He’s the captain of his neighborhood community watch. He was so proud to share with us this poster.
My mother showing the ring barer and flower girl how to walk down the aisle.
My cousin getting her makeup test done while the groom waited.
In Taal, one of the historic areas of the Phililppines. Along a street that sold many wedding dresses.
In Batangas City. This is the maternity house that I was born in 28 years ago.
My father and his family own many mango fields. We visited some on this day. Here’s my mom inspecting some of the fruit.
Posing with the grandkids.
Seriously, she’s so cute.
My cousin’s child. She looks just like her dad. Believe me.
Can you see me in the picture?
Mom and dad.
My mom’s land in Bataan. This shot taken from the hillside of her backyard. All those rows of plants are pineapples waiting to grow. It doesn’t look it, but the land is pretty steep. I was really far down the hill when I took this shot.
The steps to get down the hill. That’s my brother you see.
Did you know pineapples grew above ground? Here are some young ones.
The view from my mother’s backyard. Truly awesome.
I’m calling this guy George.
Visiting the beach town that my mother first taught at as an elementarcy school teacher, almost 40 years ago. On the way to the beach, this kid jumped out in front just when I snapped this picture.
Can you imagine teaching at a school with this view?
On the drive back home, I caught this shot. School kids cooling off in a shallow stream.
I love coming to the Philippines and drinking soda from a bottle. It’s the only time I ever get to.
Our neighbor in the States has a pharmacy in the Philippines. We had a chance to visit it while here.
My cousin’s child and my cousin in the background. My cousin went through a stem cell transplant this past September to fight his leukemia. He’s doing remarkably well. But we need to wear masks when visiting him. A small price, I say, to see him healthy.
THAT’S ALL FOR NOW But much more later. I have many photos from back in the States since October that I want to share. Have a great day!
October 11th, 2006 Reflection on a Weekend
Because mine are truly excellent. :o)
First, sorry for not posting sooner. I lost my laptop battery for a while, so I couldn’t access my photos. Then I caught a cold. I call it a Monday morning cold. But now I’m well and rested and ready to blog.
SCRAPBOOK OASIS WAS A BLAST!
Super fun times! The ladies there were a hoot. They made me feel so welcomed and I’ll forever be grateful for that. Wendy and Karen were too generous with their time and support. I’d had a chance earlier this year to visit their store, and I had a great time then. So I was more than happy when they asked me to come and teach this time around. If anyone ever gets the opportunity, I highly recommend it.
And I’ll always look back on this weekend with big smiles. So many sincere ladies who just love the hobby. That’s what I enjoy most, I think. Being around those who love scrapbooking just to love it. Their energy fueled mine and a lot of good work was done. It was great meeting everyone, and especially amazing meeting those I’ve only had email relationships with. (Angi and Jamie, just to name two.) Isn’t that funny? How a shared love for something creates such a special bond? I’m continually amazed.
My photos from the weekend are HERE. I have very few from the store and classes because I was just so busy teaching. So if anyone took photos they’d be willing to share, please send me a copy and I’ll upload them to the gallery.
Thanks Wendy, Karen, and all the ladies who took the classes. For real, one of the best times of my life.
AFTER THE CLASSES
I spent time Saturday night with Kah-Mei and Tara. Relax, relax, relax was my motto for the night.
So we went to the Irvine Spectrum and just chilled. The weather that weekend was just gorgeous, and the evenings were perfect just to walk around in. And let’s just say sushi, good sidewalk music, shopping, a margarita, and a romantic comedy made my night. :o)
SUNDAY
I spent the next day with my friend Divine and our friends. She and I had ourselves a mini-spa session. Good gosh, I was so relaxed. After the overdrive I was in for the classes, I was the complete opposite for the massage. It was an amazing way to rejuvenate. I’m totally addicted now.
After the spa, we met up with our friends and her sister Rosary, who was celebrating her 25th birthday that day. Fun! Had Thai food at this fantastic place in West Hollywood, then trekked over to Pasadena for some window shopping. There really is nothing better than spending time with friends to calm you down and help you refocus. Thanks guys!
MY FRIEND, KAH-MEI
So let me take this opportunity to tell you about my friend Kah-Mei. Owner of FontWerks. Supermom. Artist. Mentor. Friend. She’s all this and so much more. She flew down from Canada this past weekend just to be there for me and offer her support. It was a complete surprise! I had absolutely no idea that she was coming down and when I saw her, the shock to my system was something truly sweet. This weekend at Scrapbook Oasis was my first teaching experience ever and I was so nervous. That wasn’t a surprise. But having Kah-Mei there just for me, man, there’s no other feeling like it. When you’ve got friends like these, you never take them for granted. And you take every opportunity you can to let them know how much they mean.
Thanks so much Kah-Mei for being there for me. You have no idea how much your surprise meant. And I’ll always be thankful for you.
A VERY SPECIAL P.S.
Please take take a moment and help me wish my good friend Jennifer Strano a very merry (though belated) birthday! She’s the co-owner and co-wonderful personality behind Strano Designs - a.k.a. my absolute favorite ribbon in the world. Jen’s a wonderful and amazingly talented lady and I wish her all the happiness for her birthday week. Happy Birthday, Jen!
